Metocean studies

Wave hindcast models producing hourly timeseries (as from 1979 to date) of waves, water levels and currents have been developed or are under development for the following regions:

Global coverage
North Sea
Mediterranean Sea
Black Sea
Red Sea
Caspian Sea
Arabian Gulf

Model resolutions vary per area from 1.25 x 1.00 degree for the global model to 1/20 x 1/20 degree for sub basins. Hindcasts are made using the third generation spectral models WAVEWATCH-III (global, basin and regional scale models) and SWAN (coastal areas). Validation of non-coastal wave heights is done using altimeter data.
